BESA Referee Information and Forms

The following links provide important information for BESA referees such as expectations, requesting games, and reports.

The Better WE get, the better IT gets!

The Laws of Soccer, Advice to Referees, and the latest memorandums and position papers are posted on the U.S. Soccer websiteAsk a Soccer Referee includes interesting soccer rule questions with answers that have been coordinated with and approved by the U.S. Soccer Federations's National Program for Referee Development.

Finally, another excellent referee resource that has the Laws, Guides to Procedures, video clips and a well organized list of the latest memoradums is ntxreferees.org.

North Texas Soccer

North Texas Soccer, through its Referee Program, provides an effective and efficient service to the soccer community which ensures games will be officiated at a competent level throughout all age groups.  Clinics for new referees as well as recertification and upgrade clinics for existing are posted on the North Texas Soccer website.  Referee requirements, guidelines and policies are detailed in the NTSSA Referee Policy Manual.

How do I become a Referee?

We get this question frequently, and we are excited that so many youth want to try their hand at officiating!

There are two basic requirements:

  • Referees must be 12 years of age before September 1 of the current soccer year to referee in the fall, or March 1 of the current soccer year to referee in the spring.
  • The hard part - referees must attend a referee clinic and pass a referee test. For additional information about becoming a referee and details about clinics offered, see the North Texas Soccer website.

Upon completion of a clinic, or if you are a referee that would like to officiate BESA games, complete a contact information form and email it to the BESA Assignor and the Director of Officials (see contact page).

To whom do I provide feedback about the officiating at a BESA Game?

All referee feedback should be submitted by the coach using a Referee Evaluation Form.
